Sources and Update Standards
Our tools are designed around traceable rules, not unexplained averages or marketing estimates.
What a calculator source record should contain
Rule identity
Jurisdiction, benefit type, controlling provision or agency guidance, and a direct source URL.
Time period
Effective date, injury-date rule, payment period, and the date the source was last checked.
Numerical details
Formula, wage definition, minimum, maximum, percentages, caps, units, and rounding.
Test record
Expected results for normal, boundary, transition, missing-input, and invalid-input cases.
Preferred official starting points
- U.S. Department of Labor directory of state workers’ compensation officials
- California Division of Workers’ Compensation
Review frequency
Annual limits are checked before their effective year and again when the issuing agency publishes a final notice. Pages are also reviewed when a statute, regulation, court decision, or agency bulletin changes the calculation. Evergreen explanatory pages are reviewed periodically and when readers report a credible issue.
Source access
We prefer direct links to the relevant government page or document. If a source moves, we update the link while retaining enough identifying information to locate the underlying rule.
