Estimate Kentucky temporary total disability
How Kentucky calculates TTD
KRS 342.730 sets temporary total disability at 66⅔% of the worker’s average weekly wage, subject to 20% and 110% of the applicable state average weekly wage. For a 2026 injury, the certified SAWW is $1,161.81, producing a $232.36 minimum and $1,277.99 maximum.
The legal AWW may require payroll records and the methods in KRS 342.140. This estimator accepts an AWW; it does not decide which wage method controls.
Waiting period and medical status
Kentucky has a seven-day waiting period. TTD generally begins on the eighth disability day; when disability lasts more than two weeks, the carrier pays back to the first day. The Department says a doctor’s note must take the worker off work or impose restrictions the employer cannot accommodate.
TTD concerns temporary total disability. Permanent partial disability requires an AMA impairment rating, statutory factors, return-to-work facts, age, education, and other inputs, so it is deliberately excluded here. Kentucky provides a separate official PPD calculator.
What this estimate does not decide
The result excludes coverage, employment status, compensability, accepted AWW, payable days, MMI, work restrictions, offsets, credits, concurrent claims, permanent benefits, medical benefits, settlement value, and litigation outcomes.
Which date controls the rate?
The calendar year of injury selects the schedule used by this tool.
Does TTD start immediately?
Usually no. The first seven disability days are a waiting period, subject to retroactive payment when disability lasts more than two weeks.
Can this calculate PPD?
No. PPD needs medical and vocational inputs that a simple wage calculator cannot responsibly determine.
